The Swedish National Mediation Office states in a recent report that the gender pay gap in Sweden has decreased every year since 2007. For the first time ever, it was less than ten percent in 2019.
The report shows that even though a portion of the remaining gap is the result of women being overrepresentated in low income jobs, there is still a 4,2% difference left unexplained. The report also states that the gender division in the labor market is declining, and more women are working in traditionally male dominated professions and vice versa, but that the current Corona crisis and its effects on employment might have a negative impact on this positive development.
